Oriental BodyWork

Oriental Bodywork refers to a number of traditional massage techniques that focus on the meridian and connective tissues pathways of the body. Through examination and palpation a practitioner of Oriental Bodywork can feel for the subtle adhesions and imbalances in the connective tissue pathways. These areas of tension as well as areas of weakness, can be brought into balance through different techniques of pressure and manipulation. The various forms of Oriental Bodywork include…

  • Tui Na Massage

  • Shiatsu Massage

  • Thai Massage

  • Ayurvedic Massage

Cupping

In the practice of Chinese Medicine there are number of unique tools and therapies that help to balance the body and overcome illness. Cupping is one such therapy that is excellent in alleviating pain and tension.

Cupping is the method of using suction to pull up on the tissues. It can be thought of as a “reverse massage,” where with a massage the technique is to apply pressure to break up a knot in the muscle, cupping pulls up on the tissue to unravel the knot, pulling apart the different layers of skin, fascia, and muscle. As the space between the layers open up, toxins, stagnate blood, and metabolic waste are drawn out to get cleared away and replaced with fresh blood, fluids, and nutrients.

Gua Sha

Another unique therapy in Chinese Medicine that works on alleviating pain and tension is the therapy of Gua Sha. For those who are familiar with the Graston Technique that is often used by Chiropractors and Physical Therapist, Gua Sha is the original technique that uses a hard edged tool to brush the surface of the body at varying pressures in order to breakup stagnation in the tissues and draw blood to the surface.

Gua Sha is excellent in releasing hard to treat knots and adhesions that are unable to be released through massage or cupping.
